Jennette McCurdy knows what her assets are and she is not afraid of showing them off. TheSam & Cat actress has posted a half-naked photo of herself on social media, but this time, her risqué photos making it to the public sphere was her choice.
McCurdy is a talented actress and obviously so much more than just her physical appearance, but she seems to understand not all of her fans are the Nickelodeon crowd. So are the photos going too far, especially for an actress with a young fan base?
Miley Cyrus has gone through the same thing. As an actress who got her start on Disney, her overtly-sexual attitude has worried some parents — as well as fellow role models.
McCurdy took to Reddit on Thursday, posting a blog called "I am not a role model."
"With the growing I've done, I realize that to attempt to live up to the idea of being a role model is to set myself up for foregone failure," she wrote. "Sure, I've made some mistakes, but even if I hadn't, people would have found invisible ones. This world is one seemingly most keen on judgment and negativity, despite all the hearts and smiley emoticons."
The responses to McCurdy's photo were mixed on Instagram, with some replies happy McCurdy was posting these pictures and some thinking it was completely inappropriate. But most of her fans seemed to offer their support, even if they weren't a fan of the photos.
Instagram user angeljimenezl wrote, "Woow incredible!"
"You are an amazing woman and deserve love and respect. Forget the haters," wrote user skiyleraiken.
One fan accused McCurdy of fishing for comments, which may be what the actress thinks she needs right now since her show, Sam & Cat, was just canceled.
But McCurdy has been dealing with controversy after controversy, which may be leading to her rebellious attitude. Back in April, photos leaked of the actress in her underwear, and after the less-than-wholesome shots enveloped the internet for days, many guessed the show would be canceled. But there was also reported drama on the set with her co-star, Ariana Grande, with McCurdy reportedly upset that her co-star was making more money than she was.
She skipped the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards back in April, reportedly because of a contract dispute with her network. She didn't shy away from telling the world exactly how she felt.
But Grande cleared up any rumors of a feud, at least between the two of them. Talking with CBS Radio, she said of the photos, "It was hot. Who cares?"
"She had her panties and her bra on. It is not like she was nude. It was tasteful. She looked good. If you look like that you've got to make light of it."
In her blog, McCurdy continued, "To remove myself from the role model battle, the falsified standard set by the bubblegum industry, is — in my eyes — to remove myself from the counterintuitive battle of attempting to be something perfect while being glaringly aware of my imperfections."
Either way, Jenette McCurdy is talented and beautiful — inside and out — and needs to show her fans that there is more to getting attention than just stripping down to your undies. But it looks like letting go of what people think of her is what may help her in the end.
