The world lost a fashion icon this week when Oscar de la Renta passed away at 82 after a long battle against cancer.
On Friday, it was announced that a private funeral service will be hosted in New York on Nov. 3 to honor the designer's life. The service is taking place at the same chapel where the family of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis held her funeral.
Close family and friends will have an opportunity to pay homage to de la Renta at a private mass at Church of St Ignatius Loyola at Park Avenue and 84th Street, according to WWD.
The legendary designer passed away on Monday evening at his home in Kent, Conn., surrounded by his family and "more than a few dogs," according to The Telegraph.
De la Renta was renowned for his charm, standing in the same social circle as many royals, celebrities, socials and more. He was a longtime friend of Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg. Both are expected to attend the service.
"He died exactly as he lived: with tremendous grace, great dignity and very much on his own terms," said a handwritten statement released by his family.
"While our hearts are broken by the idea of life without Oscar, he is still very much with us. Oscar's hard work, his intelligence and his love of life are at the heart of our company."
De la Renta began his career in fashion by sketching for Cristobal Balenciaga, then moved to Paris where he was offered a job at Christian Dior, but ended up working as an assistant for Lanvin's designer Antonio del Castillo, according to the New York Times. His career was launched in the 1960s after he started working at Elizabeth Arden back in the US. In 1965, he started his namesake line.
The designer dressed many celebrities for the red carpet, including Amy Adams, Penélope Cruz, Emma Watson, Taylor Swift, Jessica Chastain, Tina Fey, Oprah Winfrey, Zooey Deschanel and Anne Hathaway.
